Fort Walton Beach, FL – “The United Way of Okaloosa and Walton Counties’ Board of Directors is pleased to announce a 2014 Community Goal of $1,225,000, an 11.6% increase over 2013,” said Martha Miller, president of Coastal Bank and Trust and United Way Board Chair. “Our Board realizes this goal is very challenging. It will continue to require the generous support of the Okaloosa and Walton County Communities.
In its 55 year history, the local independent United Way has raised more than $50 million. Local businesses, their employees and individuals have donated the funds, partnering with United Way to invest the donations back into the community, funding 42 Partner Agencies who focus their efforts on three United Way initiatives: Children and Education, Financial Stability and Disaster Readiness, and Health and Prevention.
Walker Hooks of Regions Bank, the 2014 Campaign Chair stated, “The need is great in our community but the generosity of our neighbors has proven even greater. When we come together, we move individuals from poverty, to possibilities.” The United Way of Okaloosa and Walton Counties officially kicks off its 2014 Campaign in early September. Several leading businesses have joined in an early Pacesetters Campaign under the leadership of Betty Brassell of First City Bank, which will report their totals at the general kickoff. “Our Pacesetters have accepted a 20% Increase goal,” Brassell said.
Through the leadership and generous commitment of many community-leading organizations, a dozen volunteers will serve as Group and Division Chairs in the fund raising effort and, as usual, nearly 50 LEs (Executives-on-Loan from local businesses) will do much of the leg work, providing leadership and direction as they assist local companies and organizations to conduct effective internal employee campaigns. “These volunteers are the backbone of our 2014 Campaign,” said Hooks.
United Way Marketing Chairperson Yvonne Freeman of Brainstorms Marketing stated, “When you give the United Way, your gift helps right here at home. Our campaign slogan says it best: REAL PEOPLE – REAL RESULTS!”
